Michael Mifsud scored twice as giantkillers Coventry marched into the FA Cup fourth round at the expense of below-par Blackburn. The Malta international, nicknamed the Mosquito due to his 5ft 5in frame and deadly finishing, opened the scoring and added a late fourth to take his season's tally to 15. His goals sandwiched second-half strikes from Elliott Ward and Dele Adebola and sent 3,000 visiting supporters into raptures.

Benni McCarthy ended a ten-game drought to give Blackburn Rovers a happy ending in the tale of two penalties that was played out at Ewood Park. McCarthy struck home the winner from the spot, and his ninth goal of the season in the 57th minute, just six minutes after Dean Whitehead had missed a penalty for Sunderland. On a night of misery for Black Cats boss Roy Keane, Dwight Yorke was sent-off in the 71st minute for two bookable offences in the space of five minutes.

Derby were beaten by Blackburn Rovers

Derby County's slim hopes of staying in the Premiership look even more remote after Blackburn Rovers came back from a goal down to win at Pride Park. Although Matt Oakley gave the Rams the boost of a 27th-minute lead, a missed penalty by Steve Howard proved to be the turning point as Blackburn hit back with goals from Roque Santa Cruz and David Bentley. The visitors should have wrapped the match up in the second half and deserved to take the three points but Derby will look back on the penalty incident which could have changed the course of the game

Manchester City's perfect Premier League home record bit the dust amid huge controversy as Roque Santa Cruz scored twice to earn Blackburn Rovers a point. The Paraguayan had already levelled once for Blackburn after Darius Vassell nodded City ahead. Yet Rovers quickly found themselves behind when skipper Ryan Nelsen slid into his own net and Sven-Goran Eriksson's men seemed certain to be celebrating victory until David Bentley swung over a right-wing cross six minutes from time.

Blackburn 2-3 Arsenal

Arsenal have beaten Blackburn Rovers 3-2 after extra-time in a hugely entertaining Carling Cup quarter-final at Ewood Park on Tuesday. Goals from Abou Diaby and Eduardo gave The Gunners' young team a 2-0 lead, with Roque Santa Cruz scoring a brace to take the game to extra time, but with the 10-man Arsenal sealing the win in extra-time through a second goal from Eduardo. Arsenal took the lead in just the 6th minute of the match, with Abou Diaby latching on to a cross from Nicklas Bentner and lobbing the ball with his right foot over Brad Friedel and into the top corner of the net to make it 1-0

In-form Aston Villa won their fourth straight league fixture to move to sixth place in the Premier League. Villa keeper Scott Carson made three good early saves before John Carew headed the visiting team ahead. Gareth Barry scored from the penalty spot after Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen harshly saw red for a tug on Gabriel Agbonlahor's shirt.

After a tight first half that was notable only for a knee injury to Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy, the game opened up after the break. Fulham struck the first blow after 51 minutes as Ryan Nelsen brought down Diomansy Kamara and Danny Murphy slotted home the penalty.

Blackburn and Liverpool shared the points in a tightly-contested match. Rovers made it a magnificent seven wins in a row to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup with a 2-1 victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park. Benni McCarthy gave the visiting fans plenty to cheer when he turned well to fire past David James after twelve minutes, but it was a strong defensive performance who kept Portsmouth at bay until Morten Gamst Pedersen fired home from close-range to finish off the home side.

Benni McCarthy scored the only goal as Blackburn deservedly beat Manchester City at a sodden Ewood Park. McCarthy struck from close range in the first-half after Kasper Schmeichel parried a header from Roque Santa Cruz. The ball twice struck the City woodwork, Rovers missed several openings and Schmeichel made several saves as the home team dominated.
